At Last! At Long Last

So many of you have asked after Iris and requested some updated photos. As much as I'd have loved to oblige, she's been even more elusive since the big floor refinishing project a few months back.

Iris has always been timid and easily spooked, but the upheaval - however temporary - of the life she'd settled into caused her to regress and she's not yet back to her 'normal'.

She divides her time between two big, squishy beds. The nice heated one in the kitchen is a favorite. It's situated right next to the basement door so she can quickly scoot to her 'safer' spot, another bed down the stairs.

She spends her time alternating between the two. She's not at all unhappy, just especially cautious. If I move a little too quickly in the kitchen, down the stairs she goes until she feels safe again.

I've tried a few times to get some photos of her in the kitchen, but the visage of me creeping up on her with the camera is not one that she approves of, and I don't want to subject her to anything that makes her the least bit tense.

So when I spied little Rufus with her today, I knew I had to try. I didn't dare get too close, and the photos are a little blurry, but I was so happy to be able to once again memorialize my beautiful, blue-eyed Iris.

I do love her so.

  1. I never knew you had a third cat (or one that was such a stunning beauty as Iris) so I read her story. I'm so pleased she's with you and has a forever home where she feels safe and can snuggle on her perch with kitties. I hope she gets the courage to climb back up there soon.

  2. I'm so glad you were able to get pictures of her! She's just lovely. I hope she feels secure enough soon that she doesnt run any more.

  3. Moya ~ I not only have a third kitty, but a fourth and fifth as well.

Rosie, Minnie, Iris, Franny and Tiny Man.

  4. I think I have been one of those requesting photos. That is a comfy looking bed. It's so nice that you don't pressure Iris and let her be herself.

  5. So good to see Iris. We all love seeing her but don't want her to be stressed at all. The look that she is giving Rufus is kind of funny :)

  6. Thank you for the update on Iris. How does she do with Franny? I love the progression from "What are YOU doing in MY basket" to "Ok kid, let's just nap" to "Oh Thank God it left!"
My mom had a cat like Iris, Molly Bloom, who would bolt at anything moving. It takes a special person to adopt such cats and then give them the spce they need. Thank you.

  7. It's o.k., Iris, you're in a good spot. My skitty kitty says, "Hi!", then burrows under the blanket on her bed thinking she is being too forward!

  8. I love Iris.
    I love Sue.

  10. Hi Sue, I forgot about Tiny Man (how could I when he's so lovely). Now I have to look at Franny. I love the great home you've made for all these babies and your lovely permanent residents. Iris's story is so touching and I'm so pleased she found you.

  12. My Harley is a skitty kitty, too. Heaven forbid that I move too quickly while she's eating in the kitchen! And Rufus -- he's all "Play with me, Iris!" So cute!

  13. Iris is definitely in the right home. I was glad to see that she was so patient with Rufus waving his arms and making "crazy eyes" at her. She looked so sweet and calm at the end. Lovely Iris ;-)

  14. What a sweet sequence you captured!

  15. I love all your cats, Sue. And Franny's story is equally touching. Her late litter mates broke my heart. What beauties they were. And what a beauty their sister grew up to be. Thank you for giving all these dear cats such love and good homes. My deaf Peeps is sending you purrs and soft wet noise touches as I type.

  16. I mean dear. Peeps isn't deaf at all.

  17. Thank you so much for the Iris update, Sue! She is such a gorgeous girl. I can feel my blood pressure lowering as I look at her - something about her is so very calming.

  18. How lovely Iris is! I am so glad she was so focused on Rufus that you were able to capture some photos for us to see.

Her slo mo biscuits were awesome!

  19. Awww, I have a 20 year old kitty who was just like Iris. A new pair of clunky shoes would send her fleeing down the basement stairs!
But now she's mostly deaf, and while skittish if she sees you, she's now possibly the chillest cat ever! I think she loves not hearing anything!
And it does take a special person to love those cats; most people complain that their cat's too afraid!
