Soo-prize!!

I've been keeping one last Goodall in the wings! It's Lois!

Sweeeet!

I wasn't toying with you holding out like this. Honest. Well, maybe a little.

Okay, here's the deal. Little Lois Goodall made her entrance into this world with out a tail. Sweet, poofy, gorgeous - no tail.

Some of us are aware that while lots of kitties do just fine with no tail, thank you very much, there are those that have difficulty with elimination if the nerve endings are affected. In these cases, the decision to humanely euthanize can be the kindest, most loving choice to make for the kitty. Heartbreaking, but humane. I didn't want for you to meet her and fall in love without first feeling confident that she'd be fine.

And fine she is! It's been over a week now, and her litter box 'doings' are most excellent!

So it's my huge pleasure and absolute joy to present Miss Lois Goodall! I'm so happy to finally share her with you.

Thank You So Much For Asking!

A number of you have inquired about Annie, so I'd better take a break from the Goodalls and respond lest anyone thinks there's reason to worry. Her healing process is coming along very nicely, and she's just as lovey dovey and purr-y as ever!

She took a little trip with me to see the Humane Society vet the other day. She was due for vaccines, so while she was there the decision was made to briefly anesthetize her to get a good look inside her mouth.

Her tongue has completely healed, although it's a little jagged on the side of the burn; there is a lesion on the roof of her mouth that is nicely diminishing in size; and due to the extent of the burn on her gums, she may need a tooth extraction or two before all is said and done.

There is no reason to think that any of these things will result in long-term issues. Everything is healing, and kitties can do just fine without a tooth or two.

I continue to be amazed by her steadfast refusal to let this experience get her down. Her spirits have been nothing but upbeat from the start and it's only getting better. She's gained several degrees of spunkiness and trots around here like she owns the place. If I somehow retire for the night without her realizing it, she'll come flying into the room in a blur, leap onto the bed and burrow under the covers before I can pull them under my chin!

As much as I love every kitten I care for, I know I can't be tempted to keep them. Five permanent residents is plenty. But every now and then... Well, you know where I'm going with this. If I had 'a few' fewer, this one might be staying.

But she's not. Something tells me that I'm going to be choosing among a few interested parties for Annie. She's a special girl who deserves the best.

And there's little doubt that she'll be spit-shined when the time comes.

My Buddy

When I first met the Goodalls, they were hissy spitty little things. This lil guy was the scardiest.

I played along like I was afraid, but they were way too cute to be scary. (I kinda giggled when they weren't looking.)

I'm happy to say that Buddy is now my buddy and was the first Goodall to purr.

Handsome little poof.

'Tis the Season!

It is an honor and sincere pleasure to introduce to the world..

Claude Goodall

His given name is Jean-Claude Goodall, but he feels that to be a little highbrow and hoity-toity. He has asked that he be referred to simply as Claude. I gave him my promise, but I can't be sure I won't slip up now and then. He's a dreamy dreamboat.

Y'all come back now! Dude's got some siblings!

(Yes, Annie's still here, too. Still purring.)

Gently, Very Gently

The burn in Annie's mouth was limited to the left side. She seems to spend a little more time grooming there than she does on the right.

It's sweet to watch. She seems particularly careful to not hurt herself, but it's clear that it's not nearly as sore as it was.

She's delicious.

Seems Like Old Times

I sure have missed having kittens around. Rosie has, too.

Her name is Annie.

I Have a Story to Tell You. It's a Kitty Story.

Back on March 3, a five-month-old kitten was turned into the shelter as a stray. This beautiful little tortie girl was suffering something awful from a burn to her tongue and the inside of her mouth.

There was no way to tell what had happened, but the thought was that she had probably been exposed to a chemical of some kind. It might also have been an electrical burn, but whatever it was, she was in pain. I won't go into great detail, but she didn't look good.

I first met her two days after she arrived and honestly I wasn't optimistic about the outcome. The doctor had decided to treat her and see how she'd do. She was given pain medication, fed with a syringe and cried a good deal. Of course she did. Poor baby. Yet she was such a love. She'd purr and purr at the slightest attention. Such a trouper.

She was hanging in there by the time I finished my work week on Thursday, but still I wasn't sure I'd see her again. When I returned to work yesterday, I was overjoyed to see that she was still there! The doctor said, "She's doing great! Do you want to foster her?" :)

So here she is. I'll have her for at least a couple of weeks while she continues to heal. There's still a little bit of drainage from her mouth, but she's eating canned food on her own and has improved so much. She's older than the kittens I usually foster, but she's no less special. No sirree. I haven't named her yet, but didn't want to wait to share her with you.

She is so darn affectionate, I could very well end up with a shiner from the enthusiastic head butts! She just wants to cuddle up to my neck as close as she can possibly get and purr like crazy.

This is the rare case of a kitten I think would do fine in a single kitty household. She wants all of the attention, and after her ordeal that's exactly what she should have.

Here she is.

Fingers Drum, Drum, Drumming

Still no babies, but perhaps these will tide you over for a minute.

How hilarious is that? My friend saw them at a thrift store and thought of me. Of course. And yes, they fit!
